E Dolce Far Niente

"The sweetness of doing nothing"

There is a popular Italian saying that for anyone who has visited Italy that has witnessed it firsthand, “the sweetness of doing nothing”. The Mediterranean has a secret some of the northern countries as well as North America take for granted. The time to let go, hang out and talk with friends, go to the beach, nap or in our case grab some coffee.

One of Rome’s most fashionable and busy streets, Via Condotti is where you’ll find the Antico Caffe Greco. One of Italy’s oldest Café’s second only to the Caffe Florian in Venice.

Walk inside a feel yourself step back into time. There are a sequence of rooms all in a Napoleonic style with small and round marble topped tables, renaissance era chairs and paintings with elaborate framed mirrors throughout Caffe Greco.

Many writers and historical figures came here. Today locals and tourists pack the café. It’s a bit pricey but well worth it. The service is great but it gets very crowded at times so you might end up waiting a little. That’s OK because this can be practice for “e dolce far niente”.

Sipping coffee and people watching especially on the Via Condotti is an occurrence that brings food and fashion together. A historic landmark on an ancient road with modern and trendy people is the ultimate coffee culture experience.
